A Calling Within a Calling

The sweet baby boy born to my Syrian sis, who is now a young man oye

I always knew I was a mother, even before having children of my own.
I found great joy in loving any child who came my way and in supporting their families, especially their mothers.

Fast forward to 2016, when I advocated for my Syrian friend in labor who needed emergency medical care.

2020, when I had my first child.

2021, when I lost my second child.

2023 when I birthed my youngest.

In between our boys I took a birth doula training, and in 2021 I supported the arrival of a beautiful baby in our local hospital. I was buzzing, it was so fulfilling for me. Since then I have been able to support the arrival of 2 more babies, as well as several mama in their 4th trimester/ postpartum. I have found that all the challenges I have walked through with my own babies, postpartum anxiety, adjusting to motherhood, have become an asset in serving other new mamas.

As an intercessor I have learned that some intercession is hands on- is actually lived out. There is a time for words and there is a time for the Word to become flesh. In this case, being a listening ear, and willing arms to hold a baby in the night translates the love of God into real time and space.

I have also been enjoying tapping into my artistic side and utilising our garden to deliver hand picked and arranged bouquets, a touch of beauty that says “your life is beautiful and you are doing a good job,” to a tired mama.

I am so blessed to watch the love of God touch families, just as it touches me in the process. There is more to come in this space. Stay tuned.
