Creative Capacity

I am always intrigued by this New Zealand palm tree: The fronds at the top patiently wait to unfurl as the next layer of it’s covering, while the old growth becomes part of the trunk, increasing it’s stature.

I pulled my DSLR out from storage this morning, and just feeling it’s weight in my hands again brought a burst of fresh inspiration and creativity to my soul. It was like a reawakening of things that have slumbered.

I find my mind much more active these days, hungering to learn again. I have realised that most of my desire and capacity to learn has been temporarily shut down in response to trauma while in survival mode. The fact that I have capacity to learn again is a sign of healing progressing.

Creativity can’t happen in survival mode, it happens in a safe environment when the heart is held in hope.
