The Spirit Speaks
The Spirit speaks through sidewalk prophets, "regular" Christians, ragamuffin-types, and women living in NYC shelters alike. Sometimes it's easier to accept the brokenness of our homeless brothers and sisters than to see the signs of life hidden under threadbare coats and in tired eyes.
Yet there are so many times God has chosen to speak through the person in front of me when I just stop and listen. There is an immense gift of honor and dignity we can give just by humbly receiving from someone. It allows the other to have "what is better," i.e., "it is better to give than receive." In the process we meet with Jesus!
God spoke to me once through a man named Phillip at our Chelsea Park location. As I was working on getting him some shelter information, he looked at me and said, "it appears you've got the Holy Spirit in you." Another time in Harlem the Lord used a woman to encourage me to stop hiding during a time when I was wrestling with my worth.
I want to receive Jesus in whatever "disguise" He chooses to come! Let's live in expectancy of stumbling upon God everywhere since the whole earth is full of His glory!
